The digital transformation of a major financial institution
Digital transformation is an increasingly prevalent reality for companies around the world, and Brazil is no exception. In fact, major players in the financial sector—the most digitally mature segment—are adapting to new market demands by implementing innovative solutions that ensure greater agility, efficiency, and competitiveness, while also preparing for the next stage in their digital evolution.
One of the country’s leading payment and financial services companies chose to adopt SAP solutions to scale this next step, facing a major challenge: ensuring that the selected solution could support the projected increase in daily transactions over the coming years, aiming to reduce the “quote-to-cash” time.
The company faced significant challenges related to real-time data processing and managing large transaction volumes. The goal was to ensure that transactional data—flowing between different payment systems—was handled efficiently, while maintaining data integrity and system performance.
The ability to support massive data ingestion into its Billing system was a key requirement, along with enhancing the use of products like digital payments.
The company adopted a strategy to upgrade its ERP system (SAP) and implement SAP BRIM.
Implementation with DigitalRoute
To meet this need, a partnership was established in 2021 with DigitalRoute for the implementation of SAP Convergent Mediation services, the data ingestion and processing module within SAP Billing and Revenue Innovation Management (BRIM). It was in this context that Gelly Consulting and Training, DigitalRoute’s local representative, stepped in. The mission was to integrate and implement a data ingestion and processing solution capable of handling the company’s high transaction volume, ensuring that all data was correctly processed for charging, billing, and revenue recognition.
Production Support and Operational System Maintenance
The implementation phase was crucial to ensuring the payment and financial services company could operate without interruptions. The major challenge was keeping the systems running smoothly during the integration of the new data processing solutions. The Gelly team began by installing and configuring SAP Convergent Mediation.
At the same time, requirements analysis and preparation for Wave 1 of the project took place, which included the delivery of the first product workflows—already operational. Throughout this process, Gelly committed to working closely with the company’s teams to ensure that transactions continued to be processed effectively, without any impact on customers or internal operations. The integration was successful, maintaining high system availability and performance without compromising process reliability.
Next came the new delivery wave, involving much higher transaction volumes. The result was a substantial reduction in processing time—from nearly 24 hours with manual intervention to around five minutes.
Support for New Payment Products
After the new solution went live, the company aimed to develop new products and services to increase flexibility and better meet the varied needs of its customers—all while maintaining stable operations with its existing products. DigitalRoute was brought in to support this challenge, and Gelly has been entrusted with this responsibility ever since.
Gelly also led the first upgrade service, moving from SAP CM version 8.1 to version 8.3.
A Strong and Successful Partnership
At the first executive board meeting of 2025, the results of the partnership with Gelly Consulting were highlighted. No critical issues were reported with SAP Convergent Mediation or the delivered workflows. Data governance and quality improved compared to previous years, billing times were reduced, and value was added through faster payments and delivery cycles.
